Food fair adds zest to Dragon Boat Festival

VARIETIES of zongzi -- glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed leaves -- will be displayed at a food fair in the Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition Hall to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on Monday.

It will be the first food fair ever held to celebrate the festival and it will last from tomorrow to Monday.

Zongzi is a must-have for this traditional festival, which occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Apart from those filled with pork, sweet bean paste or duck egg yolk, new types of zongzi with eel, dates and pork ribs will also be shown.

Visitors will be invited to wrap up zongzi themselves at the fair using materials provided by the organizer.

Visitors who spend more than 100 yuan (US$15) on products from France, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Sichuan Province are eligible for a lucky draw to win trips to Tibet, Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
