Foreigners write love poems to China
Teams of foreign students from local universities showed off their Chinese language skills in poetry and prose yesterday.
The event began in 2017 in Yangpu District, organized by Fudan University.
This year it focused on the70th anniversary of the founding of the People鈥檚 Republic of China and friendship among people all over the world.
It attracted more than 300 international students. Many danced, played music instruments and wrote calligraphy.
One team and an individual from East China Normal University and another team from East China University of Science and Technology were the most popular.
Namuun Duurenbayar from Mongolia, Wafa Nabil Alshameri and Ezaes Rashad Sultan Alazazi, both from Yemen, from East China University of Science and Technology, won the title by performing renowned Chinese poet and essayist Zhu Ziqing鈥檚 鈥淪pring.鈥
Duurenbayar said she started learning Chinese about 10 years ago as her mother is a Mongolian-Chinese translator. She also loves watching TV series, such as 鈥淧rincess Pearl.鈥
Alshameri was born in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, where her parents work, and she grew up there, but began to learn Chinese only three years ago when she started university.
Alazazi came to Shanghai more than 12 years ago when her father, who had studied in Shanghai, decided to settle down in the city. She attend regular schools in Shanghai and learned Chinese in her every day life.
鈥淚 could not understood what people were talking about at first, but I tried and gradually developed day by day,鈥 she said.
鈥淲hen learning Chinese, you鈥檇 better not learn by rote,鈥 she added. 鈥淵ou have to put yourself in the environment and when you get to love it, it becomes easier.鈥
