Forum focus on culture

AN Expo forum -- "Cultural Heritage and Urban Regeneration" -- was launched in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, yesterday where experts and officials shared their views and experience on various topics focused on cultural protection and cultural value preservation in the urbanization and globalization process.
Cai Wu, head of the Ministry of Culture, said: "Culture is the core and soul of a city. Urban residents need not only convenient transportation, multi-functioned infrastructure, material wealth, but also colorful culture."
Culture serves as an important factor for urban residents' quality of life, he said. That makes discussion on cultural heritage and urban regeneration important.
The United Nations has been working on protecting material and non-material cultural heritage throughout the years, Sha Zukang, assistant secretary general of the United Nation, said.
