Four injurers still in critical condition

Four people injured in the deadly stampede along the historic Bund area on Wednesday are still in critical condition, officials told a latest press conference this afternoon.

Nine injurers have been released from hospitals today and 31 others were still under medical treatment, said Wu Jinglei, the press officer with the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission.

Among the hospitalized, 13 people are seriously injured, while the rest 18 suffered slight injures. Most of them are female, Wu said.

The stampede has killed 36 and injured 49.

“All the injurers have been identified and the hospitals have contacted the family members or friends with 28 injurers,” Wu said.

The injurers are being treated in the city’s three top-level hospitals -- the Shanghai No.1 People’s Hospital, Ruijin Hospital and the Changzheng Hospital. Two seriously injured have been transported to the Ruijin Hospital from the Huangpu District Central Hospital.

Two injurers at the Ruijin Hospital are in dangerous conditions including one suffered acute crush injury and another being sustained with ventilator. But the patient is in a clear mind, said Chen Erzhen, deputy director of Ruijin. Nine injurers are being treated in the hospital including four been seriously injured.

Another two patients were in special critical conditions in the Shanghai No.1 People’s Hospital, said Xia Shujie, deputy director with the hospital. Experts have held a consultation on one of the patients and begun using artificial heart-lung system. But the condition remains critical, Xia said.
