Free Expo tickets come to city families tomorrow

THE first batch of free Expo tickets is being distributed tomorrow and recipients will be able to visit as early as June 1, the municipal government said today.

The gift packs, which include a 200-yuan (US$29.3) public transport card, a thank-you letter, an Expo map and a souvenir Haibao badge, will be first distributed in the Pudong New Area, Huangpu, Luwan and Jinshan districts and Chongming County.

The distribution will be completed by the end of this month, officials said.
Community workers will visit qualified families and if there is no one at home will leave a note.

The government made some adjustment to the distribution scheme because many citizens hope to visit Expo as soon as possible.

In the original scheme, residents were supposed to visit Expo over four months. Now they are supposed to visit from June to August.

Families in Jing'an, Zhabei, Yangpu, Minhang, Jiading, Qingpu and Fengxian districts can visit in July.

Tickets distributed in Xuhui, Changning, Hongkou, Putuo, Baoshan and Songjiang districts will be valid for August.

Officials said the new scheme will allow students to attend the event in the summer holidays and cut the visitor peak near the close of Expo.
