Freed snakes cause panic, overnight chase
POLICEMEN and firefighters labored overnight on Sunday and caught more than 100 snakes set free by animal activists near a river along Baoyang Road, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
Local residents called the police after they saw snakes crawling everywhere near their homes on Sunday night. Many snakes are about one meter long, with black and red rings on their bodies. Some snakes crawled on to boats anchored along the bank.
The snakes were sent to a wildlife conservation station in Baoshan District on Monday morning. Authorities reminded local people to learn about the habits and behavior of an animal before releasing it to the wild.
