From Zone A to HQs
CONSTRUCTION began yesterday on the former Zone A of the World Expo 2010 site in Pudong New Area to transform the area that housed the Asian pavilions into headquarters for Chinese and foreign companies.
Work was launched at a central area that will include office buildings plus restaurants, hotels and other supporting facilities.
The central area is called "Green Valley" as its large square of trees will include four blocks for construction covering 210,000 square meters, said Ding Hao, president of the Expo Development Group, which is overseeing the future of the Expo site.
"The area will be a new landmark of the future Expo site," Ding said at the ground breaking ceremony.
Green Valley will feature a three-level 200,000 square meter underground parking area, a power station and walkways to Metro stations.
Former Expo Zone B, also in Pudong, is undergoing similar redevelopment as a site for company headquarters.
