Fugitive Caught After Chase

A fugitive was captured on the city's Chongming Island after a high-speed car chase last week, Shanghai police said yesterday. On the afternoon of September 6, a stolen car crashed through a toll booth barrier in the Pudong New Area and sped towards the Changjiang Bridge that links downtown Shanghai with Chongming Island.
After hitting barriers on the bridge, the car crashed through a toll booth on the island. The driver, who police said had taken drugs, drove through checkpoints before jumping into a river where an officer caught him.
The man, surnamed Chen, was involved in a robbery in Shandong Province on August 26, police said.
