Gang gets refunds with stolen clothes

CHANGNING District police have caught a gang who stole clothes at a local shopping mall and got refunds for them with invoices they asked from other shoppers.

The gang made 2,340 yuan (US$343) by returning stolen goods with real invoices five times in two weeks, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Police caught the a gang member surnamed Xu in a raid last Friday after being tipped by shop assistants at the Cloud Nine Plaza. Police later caught the other three members.

In each case, one of the members approached a shopper who had just made a purchase at a shop and asked for their invoice. The other members checked the code of the clothes purchased and stole them. Later another member would take the clothes to the shop and ask for a refund with the invoice.
