Gang seized for 'cloned taxi' operation
A criminal gang of seven people have been detained for stealing taxi equipment and engaging in illegal taxi business, Shanghai traffic authorities said today.
The gang bought seven retired taxi cars from a second-hand market and installed stolen meters and rooftop lights on them, the officials said.
The suspects also sold stolen equipment and car plates to other illegal operators.
They were seized in a recent crackdown by traffic authorities and police and their vehicles were confiscated.
