Gas poisoning kills family of three
A family of three were found dead in a gas poisoning incident in Shanghai's Putuo District yesterday morning.
The victims were a couple in their 40s and their high-school student son.
A taxi driver found the bodies when he went to check why his colleague, who lived on Xincun Road, had not turned up for work.
He called the police when nobody answered the door or his phone call. Police broke in and found the house full of gas. The three had died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Gas company officials said that an old water heater without ventilation had led to an accumulation of gas.
Safety officials are advising residents to keep rooms well ventilated in the cold weather and to replace old or faulty cookers and water heaters with new ones.
