Gender imbalance makes it hard to find a wife
THE out-of-balance sex ratio on the Chinese mainland makes it harder for men to find a wife. A survey released recently by a matchmaking website shows the sex ratio of single men and women in marriage age is nearly 200 to 100 in China, or even 300 to 100 in some areas.
Gender imbalance is more pronounced in the countryside than in cities as rural families prefer boys to girls, the survey says.
The problem is expected to last for years because gender imbalance also appeared among people under 19, their sex ratio is 118 men to 100 women in the countryside and 115 to 100 in the cities.
Experts said that once this age group reaches marriage age, men will still have difficulty finding a wife.
