Geothermal energy
ICELAND is seeking stronger cooperation with China on geothermal energy. Iceland President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson yesterday led a delegation to the World Expo for the Clean Energy ? Cutting CO2 Emissions Conference.
Iceland has been a pioneer in the field of clean energy and sharing its experience and technologies with other countries.
Since the late 1950s, new technologies and engineering ventures have been set up, enabling Iceland to replace coal and oil with geothermal space heating, and then to power turbines and ultimately sell geothermal generated electricity to aluminum smelters and other industrial enterprises.
"Thanks to our hydropower reserves, Iceland has become the paramount clean-energy country in the world, with all our electricity and space heating provided by green energy resources," said the president.
