Gifts for visitor No. 10m
THE five Theme Pavilions at World Expo yesterday welcomed their 10 millionth visitor.
The lucky customer was a woman surnamed Wang who was visiting the event for the first time with her family.
"I feel so happy and it's such a surprise," Wang told reporters, astonished by the crowd and cameras when her family walked into the Theme Pavilion in Zone B at about 10:25am.
As a reward for the family's support for the Expo, they won a 50-inch (127-centimeter) high definition television and digital camera valued at about 17,000 yuan (US$2,510).
"We are so lucky to win these. It's something we never thought of," Wang said, barely able to suppress her excitement.
"Today is the first time we visit the Expo and this is such a big surprise for us."
The family from Anhui Province said they would use the new camera to take pictures of their Expo site visit and the television would be put in their new house.
Wang said she and her husband were doing small business in Shanghai and would never have thought to buy such a large screen television to decorate their home.
Five pavilions
Zhang Keqin, minister of the Theme Pavilions Department of World Expo, said about 40 percent of daily visitors were attracted to the five pavilions and daily volume was about 150,000 people.
"The crowds are very important and help to better promote our pavilions," Zhang said. "We have five pavilions in total, which reflect the theme of Shanghai World Expo from five different angles."
Zhang also encouraged more visitors to visit the Theme Pavilions to better understand the "Better City Better Life" theme.
The five pavilions are called Urbanian, City Being, Urban Planet, Footprint and Future. The first three are housed in the Theme Pavilion in Zone B and the other two are located in Zone D and Zone E.
