Girl lucky to escape after balcony railing comes apart
Some apartment owners of a residential building in Shanghai’s Minhang District are worried about the safety of their balcony railings as a girl almost fell to her death when one suddenly became loose and fell last week, Shanghai Television Station reported.
The girl was standing on the iron railing of their 10th floor apartment at 88 Chundu Road last week. Her family heard a scream and rushed out to find one balcony railing was gone, the report said.
The house belongs to the girl’s relative, who contacted the property management company and developer to fix the railing. After several rounds of negotiations, the railing was replaced.
The report said the railing came loose because it had rusted.
A property management company employee said other residents in the building have reported similar cases and want their railings repaired.
