Glass sheet hits talent show woman

A SHOPPER watching auditions for a talent show in a city mall suffered head wounds yesterday when she was struck by a glass barrier that fell from two floors above.

The accident happened on the B1 square of Bailian Zhonghuan Commerce Plaza in Putuo District at about 3pm. Crowds were watching hopefuls trying to win a place on "China's Got Talent."

Around the barriers on the floors above, more people were watching the show.

A 1-square-meter sheet of glass suddenly gave way on the second floor and crashed down onto the crowds below, injuring the woman.

"I was watching a singer performing when suddenly I heard a loud bang," wrote a witness on their Weibo microblog. "The woman covered her head with her hands as blood started pouring out."

She was taken to hospital. No details of her injuries were released. The accident is under investigation.

The city is to conduct inspections of buildings with glass walls, following a string of incidents in recent months in which panes fell out.
