Global sculptures to bring art closer to the people
Fifty-five works will be on display during the 2020 Jing鈥檃n International Sculpture Project from Saturday through the end of this year.
The work of 29 artists from countries and regions including China, Japan, Italy, Mexico, the UK, Ukraine and Indonesia will adorn the Jing鈥檃n Sculpture Park, Plaza 66, Fengshengli, Wujiang Road and the Jing鈥檃n Foreign Language Primary School.
The aim of the project is to bring art closer to the people and it will be the first time the sculpture festival has come to a school campus.
China鈥檚 A.R.T. Institution has designed a work to pay tribute to the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic and spark a self-examination of the relationship between humans and nature.
The work, 鈥淲e Are The World,鈥 consists of a fleet of five boats with figures of people in protective outfits and animals such as zebras, pandas and dogs onboard.
Richard Long, a renowned contemporary artist from the UK, will bring his 鈥淔our Ways鈥 work.
The work, made of slates, is in the shape of a cross and its rustic quality aims to remind people of mountains, rocks and untouched land.
Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou seeks to discuss the fate of humans and the topic of the global village in his work.
His giant 鈥淭he Talking Tree鈥 of plastic, metal and cement is based on African tradition of a talking tree where everyone is free to express their thoughts.
Shanghai-born Liang Shaoji will present his new 鈥淢oon Bay,鈥 made of stainless steel, to express his understanding of how human activities have affected the natural world. He has reshaped exhaust pipes in the style of a trumpet shell as if it could flow with the waves on the ocean under the moonlight.
