Gym exerciser hit injured by barbells when trying to break his own record

A male exerciser was hit injured by barbells he was lifting at a local gym in Minhang District yesterday noon and has been discharged from hospital today, Xinmin Evening News reported.
Photos of a man lying flat beside a weight machine was widespread yesterday on Wechat, China's most popular social-networking app, with some claiming that the exerciser was hit by barbells in the head during training and died.
The gym reportedly refuted the rumor today, saying the exerciser suffered some face and shoulder bruises instead of any serious injuries.
The man was trying to lift a new weight which was much beyond his regular limit when the barbells lost balance and fell on him. He managed to push away the barbell with hands to protect himself from major head injuries, the report said.
