Haibao saves the world (on TV)

A 208-episode cartoon about Haibao, the mascot of the Expo 2010, will be telecast on Shanghai's cartoon channel from April 1.

Two episodes of the cartoon "Coming Haibao" will be telecast around 7pm every day on HAHA TV. Each episode is 13 minutes.

An English version can be ordered on IPTV, the city's Internet-based TV service, in May.

The English version will also be shown abroad, including on the Disney Channel, after Expo opens in May.

The cartoon gives Haibao a personality and story for the first time since he was announced as the Expo mascot in December 2007, said Liu Jun, an events official at the Expo bureau.

The cartoon's target audience is children between six to 10 years old, but adults will also be entertained by the funny dialogue and interesting plots, said Liu.

It tells the story of an alien villain attacking Earth as Haibao and his friends come to the rescue. .

Many World Expos have had cartoons about the mascots to promote the event, but Shanghai's is the longest-running series.
