Haier to equip NZ and Italy pavilions

APPLIANCE maker Haier today signed contracts with New Zealand and Italy pavilions at the World Expo 2010, becoming one of the Chinese companies that donated the most to foreign Expo pavilions.

The Shandong-based home appliance manufacturer signed a sponsorship contract last Tuesday with the USA Pavilion.

"It is natural for Haier to sponsor the pavilions at the Expo, because the Shanghai event will be the world's largest Expo while Haier aims to promote its brand across the world," said Philip Carmichael, president of Haier Asia Pacific.

Under the theme "Cities of Nature: Living Between Land and Sky," the New Zealand Pavilion will showcase human blessings in various forms ranging from the economy to technology, innovations to lifestyles.

The rectangular Italy Pavilion will be laced with intersecting lines representing pick-up sticks, the game known as Shanghai in Italy.

The 3,600-square-meter structure comprises 20 functional modules of different shapes, bounded by the "sticks."
