'Hero of Asia' ballerina Tan Yuanyuan sets up int'l ballet art studio in city
CELEBRATED Shanghai-born ballerina Tan Yuanyuan, principal dancer of San Francisco Ballet announced on Tuesday that she will cooperate with Shanghai Theater Academy to set up an international studio for ballet art.
Top-notch artists from home and abroad will be invited by the studio to create original plays with distinctive Chinese elements and mentor young talented performers.
"International forums and cultural exchange events will also be held to discuss the latest concepts of creation and performing styles of ballet," said Tan.
Global ballet contest will be regularly hosted to discover new ballet talents.
Tan joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1995. She was named a “Hero of Asia” by the Asian edition of Time magazine in 2004. Tan is the first Chinese dancer to have enjoyed a big international fame in the world of ballet.
