Homes evacuate after roof caves in

THE roof of an old house in Zhabei District collapsed on Saturday, forcing more than 10 families to evacuate. A local community official said repair work has begun today.
The roof of a family on the upper floor of a century-old building on Tiantong Road caved in without any warning, hurting the foot of a woman.
The official with the Beitang Neighborhood Committee said the building was possibly too old to stand any test like heavy rains and thunderstorms last week.
She told Shanghai Daily that all the families in the building have moved out to temperorary shelters.
There are 400 plus families in the area all living in similar rundown buildings. They are all eager for relocation to new residential areas.
