Hui's love epic out in August

Award-winning Hong Kong actress Kara Hui's latest romantic epic "The New Red River Valley" will hit cinema screens across the country in August.
Hui, who rose to fame as a martial arts star, said that for the first time she is essaying the role of a woman of minority nationality in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

"I was deeply moved by the script, which is about pure human emotions and the cultural and spiritual inheritance of Chinese people," Hui said.

Before shooting began, she spent weeks traveling around Yunnan and talking to local people to know about their customs and traditions.

The film by young mainland director Li Songlin also stars Austrian actor Georg Anton and Hong Kong actress Theresa Lee.

It tells the story of how a Chinese girl from San Francisco discovers her cultural roots in her hometown in Yunnan. Her love affair with a foreign man also unlocks a dust-laden memory of the area which is about family affection, friendship, love and blood of the elder generations of Chinese people.
