Ice cream tainted with bacteria recalled
A BATCH of ice cream made by the Shanghai Yimin No. 1 Food Factory has failed quality tests for excessive bacteria, and a recall has been launched, the city鈥檚 market watchdog said yesterday.
The 70-gram milk-flavored product was made in January and sold by the Shanghai-based Bright Food Co, according to the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation.
It was sold at the ice cream shop of the Shanghai Huanqiu Supermarket Management and Development Co in Yangpu District, which purchased 95 boxes, according to the district鈥檚 administration for market regulation.
Ninety boxes have been taken off shelves, but the rest had been sold.
Faults in the refrigeration system at the shop were to blame, but other reasons were not eliminated, the watchdog said.
The factory in Fengxian District made 8,842 boxes of ice cream in total, and 6,454 had been sold, according to the Fengxian District Administration for Market Regulation.
A total of 4,797 boxes have been recalled, with more than 2,300 unsold boxes sealed to eliminate potential hazards.
The company and the factory have been ordered to stop sales of the substandard products and an investigation is under way.
