THE newborn girl who was abandoned by her mother in a public toilet last Friday died on Saturday, the hospital said.
Doctors of Xinhua Hospital said the newborn lost her temperature when she arrived in the emergency ward last Friday. They removed the placenta and the umbilical cord from her and helped her to regain body temperature.
However, the baby suffered hematochezia on Saturday night and her pulse grew faint and fainter. Despite all rescue efforts, the girl died in the end.
The baby was abandoned by her 44-year-old mother in an excrement bin in a public toilet on Changzhi Road E., Hongkou District, around 7:15am, police said.
A man surnamed Ding who lived nearby found her. Ding said he heard the baby crying and called the police immediately.
The baby's mother, surnamed Mao, was a drug addict. She is now under house arrest due to health consideration because she had just given birth, police said.
