International markets like China’s toys
The world’s latest toys and children’s products are being displayed at an exhibition in Shanghai which opened yesterday.
Over 2,500 manufacturers from dozens of countries and regions are taking part in the annual China Toy Expo, which runs until Friday at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong.
New technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality are widely features among products on display, while Chinese-made items have also become increasingly popular among overseas buyers, according to organizers.
A newly unveiled high-tech sleeping bag for babies, for instance, is made with a new material that changes color when a baby has a fever. A new nursing bottle with similar technology can change color when the milk is too hot to drink.
Many toys on display at the exhibition are designed for adults and the elderly, said Liang Mei, secretary-general of the China Toy & Juvenile Products Association, the organizer of the exhibition. Mentally-stimulating toys can help prevent Alzheimer’s and help seniors socialize.
Sales of Chinese-made children’s products and toys rose 16.7 percent year on year between January and August to US$31.5 billion. Toy exports to the United States have also increased 3.75 percent on year to US$9.7 billion.
“Chinese toys have good quality and pricing,” said Kholoud Alhussaini, CEO of an online shopping platform in Saudi Arabia.
