It's time to get festive
THE Yuyuan Garden
A traditional Chinese lantern show will be held in the Yuyuan Garden from Monday to February 2. The ox, the animal of the Lunar New Year, will be the main focus of the show. Several spots in the Yuyuan Garden, including the zigzag bridge, will be decorated with lanterns.

The city's botanical garden will hold the year's spring flower show during the holiday. Out-of-season flowers can be seen in the garden's greenhouse.

Traditional Spring Festival activities will take place at the Guyi Garden in Jiading District. People can guess riddles and enjoy spectacular lanterns while tasting authentic Nanxiang steamed dumplings, or xiaolongbao.

From tomorrow to February 28, the Shanghai Zoo will hold a festival of the ox. In Shanghai Wildlife Park, 15 protected species have recently been introduced, including four gray wolves.

The Ocean Aquarium

The city's biggest science museum will be open from 9am to 5:15pm tomorrow and from 8:45am to 6:30pm for the rest of the holiday.

An exhibition about the 2010 World Expo will open tomorrow, with a focus on the pavilions in the Expo site.

Cinema
During the Spring Festival, local cinemas are traditionally filled with sentimental and entertaining family films.
This year there's "10 Promises to My Dog," a heartwarming picture from the production team of Japanese hit "Quill," plus the Hollywood fantasy "Bridge to Terabithia," the domestic comedies "Look for a Star" and "All's Well, End's Well," and animated feature "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf."
The Metropol Cinema at People's Square has half-priced tickets for all of its screenings during the holiday.
Many other local theaters such as Yonghua Cinema will also offer half-priced screenings either in the morning or after 9pm.
Sports
Fifty-four stadiums and gymnasiums, 220 playgrounds and over 700 junior and elementary schools will open to the public during the Spring Festival.
Shanghai East Asia Sports and Cultural Center
The center will offer sports facilities including snooker, rock climbing, tennis, squash, basketball, skating and badminton. Snooker, tennis, squash and skating will be available from Monday to Saturday. The rest will start on Tuesday.

Shanghai Xianxia Tennis Center
The Tennis Center in west Shanghai will open courts from 7am to 7pm throughout the Spring Festival.

Yuan Shen Sports Center will open sports venues for limit skateboarding, indoor swimming, indoor tennis, snooker, basketball and badminton.

Jing'an Sports Center
Swimming pools in downtown Jing'an Sports Center will open from 1pm to 5pm today. Then they will be closed for five days, reopening for the same hours on January 30.

Hongkou Football Stadium
The football stadium in Hongkou District will open sports facilities from 9am to 3pm today and tomorrow and from 9am to 5pm from Tuesday.
