Jail for fake officer who raped masseur
A BOGUS policeman who raped a foot masseur and stole money from the salon where she worked has been jailed for three years.
Two accomplices, also disguised as officers, received sentences of six and eight months at the Pudong New Area People's Court.
The ringleader of the gang, an unemployed man surnamed Huang, had been working as a police assistant until he was sacked in May this year.
As a money-making scheme, he suggested to his accomplices, surnamed Zheng and Liu, that they pose as police officers and visit unlicensed hair salons where prostitution sometimes takes place, the court heard.
They planned to extort money from the salons in the form of bogus fines.
Huang spent 200 yuan (US$30) buying a false police certificate and, on August 8, the trio called on a foot massage center in Pudong's Sanlin area, which Huang had inspected when he was a police assistant.
While the other two stayed on watch, Huang showed the fake ID and asked an attendant, identified as Wei, whether she was a prostitute. When she denied this, Huang forced Wei and a customer into the minibus he had been driving, saying they would be taken to a police station for questioning.
He searched the center and helped himself to a mobile phone and two purses containing about 2,100 yuan.
The bogus policemen released the customer on a remote road. Then, while his accomplices went to eat, Huang drove Wei to a bamboo grove and raped her. Afterwards, he took her cell phone number and released her.
The trio later distributed the money equally, the court heard.
The next morning, when Wei was being examined in hospital, Huang called her - still posing as a police officer. Using his number, police tracked him down and detained him.
