Jewel thief arrested

AN 18-year-old jewel thief had a short-lived career in crime – armed police grabbed him as he was running away just 300 meters from the store he robbed.

The Anhui Province teenager surname Li tried on a gold necklace worth 17,000 yuan (US$2,500) in Laofengxiang jewelry store in Huinan Town, Nanhui District, on Wednesday, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

He then ran out the door with his loot, but was caught by police just 300 meters from the door.
