Jing'an gives breakfast subsidy to restaurants

WHITE-COLLAR workers in Jing'an District will be able to eat breakfast at affordable quality restaurants instead of roadside food stalls.

The district authority will give 1 million yuan (US$146,368) in subsidies to quality restaurants willing to open early and serve breakfast to office workers, the Oriental Morning Post reported.

About 100,000 white-collar workers in 200 office buildings in the district usually get breakfast at street stalls where hygiene and cleanliness can't be ensured. Some even skip the morning meal because they cannot find a good place.

The district government is working to get the 20 or more certified restaurants registered in the "white-collar lunch campaign" that was launched last year to participate in the breakfast movement.

These restaurants were asked to open early and offer reasonably priced, nutritious morning meals. These restaurants might start serving breakfast in the second half of this year.

Last year's lunch scheme was welcomed by office workers with set menus ranging from 10 yuan to 30 yuan.
