Jiu Guang store named for fire safety violations
SOME big names and venues including Shanghai Jiu Guang Department Store, a PizzaHut restaurant and a hospital have been accused of violating fire safety measures as city's fire authorities have begun to openly name and shame violators in a list that is made public.
Officials said they will release a list every month through the media and the city's fire prevention website, naming the violators.
The Shanghai Fire Prevention Bureau yesterday released 27 names, and demanded that other errant entities clean up their act. Officials said violators would "usually get six months to rectify and make changes."
The fire safety authority said the PizzaHut restaurant in Putuo District's Zhenguan Road had illegally lowered the fire prevention technology standards during construction.
The Jiu Guang store in downtown Jing'an Temple area was also charged for similar violations.
Others in the list were accused of blocking emergency passages and removing fire prevention facilities, authorities said.
The public have been told to tip-off authorities if they spot any violations.
Fire safety officials have begun cracking down and carrying out checks around the city recently to eliminate potential fire hazards on places like construction sites, warehouses that store dangerous goods and underground structures.
