Kid, 2 teens killed in separate accidents
THREE children were killed in two separate accidents in suburban Shanghai in the last two days.
A three-year-old boy died after being hit by a mini truck in Minhang District at 5am yesterday.
The boy was sleeping alone outside a shack by the side of a road when the truck, attempting a U-turn, ran over him.
The baby's father, Wu Songzhou, chased the driver for nearly 2 kilometers after he abandoned the truck and fled.
The family, natives of Anhui Province, arrived in Shanghai four years ago and rented a plot of land to plant vegetables.
Due to the intense summer heat, the family has been sleeping outdoors in the night.
In Fengxian District, the bodies of two 13-year-old teenagers were recovered after they were reported missing on Monday.
They were last seen swimming in the Huangpu River.
Police found the 18-year-old neighbor who took the teenagers for a swim.
"When I could not find them, I just went home alone," the 18-year-old told police.
"The dangers in Shanghai are different from those in rural areas. Parents should always take their children with them or ask others to help look after them," said Yan Suqin, a counselor with Youth Service Hotline 12355. Yan urged parents to be more careful with the kids.
