Kidnap swindle
LOCAL residents have reported 55 cases this year in which suspects claimed they had kidnapped their children and demanded they transfer ransom money to the criminals' bank accounts, city police said yesterday.
Most victims found their children had never been missing after transferring the money, police said. They are reminding parents that they should contact their children or their schools if they are targeted in this way.
