The foreigner killed by a taxi yesterday in downtown Xuhui District was a 33-year-old Frenchman with three children, Shanghai police said.
He was riding a scooter to work when the accident happened around 7am yesterday at the intersection of Wulumuqi and Hengshan roads. A witness said the scooter ran the red light and was hit by a taxi.
Police said the Frenchman had lived in Shanghai for several years with his wife and children. His scooter appeared to have a fake license.
Police have held the cabbie for questioning and the investigation is still ongoing.
