Kitchen killing arrest
A RESTAURANT worker who allegedly stabbed a colleague to death on Sunday evening has been arrested, city police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Xiang and in his 20s, worked as a cook's assistant in a Chamate outlet in Xujiahui area, police said. The dead man, surnamed Wen, was also in his 20s and also worked as an assistant.
The Chamate outlet, in a shopping mall, was closed yesterday, with management saying this was for "equipment maintenance."
A member of staff said: "It remains unknown when the restaurant will reopen."
Police said that Xiang and Wen were quarreling about 7pm on Sunday in the kitchen when Wen threw boiling water at Xiang.
Xiang then stabbed Wen with a knife, police said. Wen, who was wounded in the chest, was pronounced dead in a local hospital.
Xiang, who fled the scene, was arrested about 11pm the same evening, police said.
The suspect is from Sichuan Province, while Wen came from Anhui Province, police said.
In March, also in the Xujiahui area, a 22-year-old McDonald's employee was stabbed to death by a man who was trying to stay overnight in the fast-food store.
