Latvia readies for pavilion party
LATVIA will hold an opening ceremony and party tonight to celebrate its Expo Pavilion.
The Latvian prime minister, Valdis Dombrovskis, will attend the ceremony and the "Technology of Happiness" acrobatic show will be performed.
The Latvian pavilion is located by the central square of the Shanghai Expo, occupying 1,000 square meters next to the pavilions of Estonia, Denmark, Greece and Belgium.
Its facade comprises 100,000 colorful, transparent, plastic plates which sparkle and sway in the wind, generating a dynamic, kinetic effect.
It symbolizes nature and its various facets - forests, sea, land, sky and wind.
A wind tunnel is the centerpiece of the pavilion, representing flight embodied in the harmony, happiness and creative energy that people pursue.
Each pavilion patron will have a chance to win a free flight in the vertical wind tunnel.
Every day up to 200 visitors will be randomly selected for the Technology of Happiness experience, a free flight in the vertical wind tunnel.
Their names will be drawn randomly by a computer.
After the flight they will receive an e-mail containing a video of their flight experience. It will be produced in a format allowing it to be easily shared on social networking Websites, the pavilion said.
