Lightning, rain alerts issued while afternoon showers shall be frequent this week

THE Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued two yellow alerts at 4:20pm for lightning and rain storm when the city was hit by seasonal thundershowers this afternoon.

Local skies began to turn dark due to the effect of some rain clouds starting noon and suburban Baoshan, Jiading and Fengxian districts soon saw some showers. The cover of rain then expanded to most of the city and the weather bureau forecasted there will be an hourly 30 to 40 millimeter rainfall within six hours, as well as some lightning and thunder.

These summer afternoon thundershowers will be frequent this week and next week.
