Love is... having a domain name of your own

FLOWERS, chocolates ... or a domain name? That was the dilemma facing many people in the run-up to today's celebration of love, Valentine's Day.

Unique domain names are proving a popular, and affordable, choice this year.

A domain name usually costs around 11 yuan (US$1.6) and they are a big hit with the young, especially young student couples.

Some special domains were more expensive. For example, a "honeyILoveYou.cn" would have cost up to 5,600 yuan. Domains such as "520365.com" and "520365.net," which means "I love you 365 days a year," were going for 28,888 yuan each.

"Domain names are not only unique and but have appreciation potential," Sun Potian, a seller on taobao.com, said. "I sold 20 domains in three days this week with Valentine's Day coming."

Among other popular gifts were love letters written on ancient-style bamboo slips which could be used as bookmarks or hung on the cell phones.

Also selling well, for 130 yuan, were special newspaper pages printed with lovers' own pictures and personal stories.
