Love triangle ends with blood
A university student who allegedly killed his love rival in jealousy has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter, local prosecutors said yesterday.
Behind the killing that destroyed the bright future of two university students was a campus love triangle.
On the night of January 2, students in a local university heard a dreadful scream. A young man was found lying on the ground, bleeding with more than 20 cuts, his heart and lungs both stabbed.
A young woman, standing aside, told police the tragedy was all her fault.
The woman, Zhang Baojuan, was a high school classmate of the victim, Zhu Guoliang. They were later lovers, enrolled in two different universities in the city.
Their five-year relationship came to an end in December because Zhang thought Zhu was stingy and unromantic. At the same time, Zhang's university classmate, Wei Junyong, 21, began to pursue her with expensive gifts. Zhang decided to go with Wei.
Hearing the news, Zhu tried to dissuade Zhang, reminding her that Wei had disreputable friends. The word got back to Wei, who hated Zhu very much, prosecutors said.
After learning more about Wei's irascible temper, Zhang became regretful and missed her happy past with Zhu, who still cared for her.
On January 2, Zhang and Zhu arranged to meet in her school's library after the night study. Wei saw the two of them there, and became enraged, prosecutors said.
He took out a knife and kept stabbing him allegedly. Zhu died in hospital late that night and Wei was soon caught by police.
Zhu was a hardworking student and had been selected to work as a university teacher after graduation, his college director told prosecutors.
