Makeover for popular photo workshop?

THE planned closure of the popular photography workshop "Magic Studio" has saddened many local people but a ray of light appeared yesterday.

An experienced photographer is in talks with the studio owner, Chen Zhongqun, to take over the business. The photographer, Cai Weizhen, runs six similar photo studios across the city. He expressed confidence that he could maintain the business well. "I am not a stranger to the photography business," he said.

Cai has persuaded Chen to sell his photography equipment to him and some employees have agreed to stay.

Cai said that he would continue the studio's traditional business, job-seeking photos that earned the studio fame among college students across the city. He said he would add some more lucrative services such as children's albums to compensate for the small profit in job-seeking photos.

But Chen is unsure whether to authorize Cai to use the time-honored brand - Qunlin Photography Workshop. "The brand has witnessed the rise and fall of my own business," Chen said. "Many customers have strong identification with the artistic value behind the brand. Honestly speaking, I am not confident that the newcomer can manage well in the brand operation. If he isn't in line with my business philosophy, I would rather cancel the brand."

The studio is famous for Chen's makeup and photography skills.
