Making sure visitors will be safe
A DRILL was carried out on Saturday near the venue of the second China International Import Expo to test how the traffic system will respond to emergency.
The drill first simulated a scene where a car caught fire in the Zhuguang Road Tunnel. The tunnel will be one of the major routes for cars to get to the venue. Once the car started to burn, maintenance officers sounded the alarm in the tunnel and on digital signboards around the venue.
Sprinklers were set off in the tunnel, while the exhaust system cooled the area. After the fire was extinguished, a tow truck cleared the site.
The drill also simulated a situation in which a suspicious person was spotted bringing dangerous items inside East Xujing Station — closest to the expo venue.
The Metro operator sealed off the station while police searched for the dangerous objects. Volunteers and staff helped passengers evacuate. Shuttle buses took them to nearby stations.
