Mall in Putuo goes high-tech with 5G

Global Harbor, the largest downtown shopping mall in Shanghai, has been declared the first “5G shopping complex” in Putuo District.

A number of innovative applications and scenarios based on 5G coverage will be launched at the mall to benefit both customers and business operators. In the future, the mall will also feature intelligent shopping experiences based on the new technology.

Yuexing Group, the mall’s owner, has signed a strategic agreement with tech giant Huawei to jointly develop smart home appliances, intelligent community and business.

Tests show that the 5G network is able to provide a peak single-user download speed of 1.6 Gbps, nearly 16 times faster than 4G. Also the low latency of the 5G network is especially helpful for applications on the Internet of Things.

The 5G events are part of the sixth anniversary celebration of the mall, which covers 480,000 square meters on Jinshajiang Road. A series of themed activities and sales promotions have been planned. Cultural groups for the US, Russia and Germany will present music and dances at the mall’s south plaza.
