Man, 84, dead 5 days, found at home

AN 84-year-old man living alone who was found dead yesterday morning had been dead at least five days at his home in a community along Xincun Road in Putuo District.
The corpse was in a state of advanced decomposition and had a strong odor. The staff from a funeral parlor spent over two hours working at the scene.
The deceased has three daughters, of which two live abroad while the youngest works in Shanghai, relatives said.
The man was stubborn and refused to be served by nursing workers or live in a nursing home, the youngest daughter reportedly said.
Other such solitary deaths have also been reported this summer.
