Man arrested on suspicion of robbing 2 women with knife at ATM machine

A man on suspicion of robbing two women using ATM machines out of 8,200 yuan (US$1,249) in separate cases with a knife has been arrested for robbery, the Songjiang District People's Procuratorate said today.
The unemployed man, surnamed Shen, said he failed to find a job after leaving his former company and had recently gone nearly pennyless, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, Songjiang police received a report about a robbery happened in a bank outlet on Gulang Road in Sijing Town on Christmas Eve last year. The victim told police that she went to an ATM machine of the bank outlet alone at 11pm to deposit some money for paying off her credit card bills. After she finished the deposit and walked out of the room, a man pointed a knife at her waist to force her return to the room. The man forced her to tell him the password of her bank card and made her withdraw 6,000 yuan for him.
After getting the money, he asked her to stay in the room for at least one minute and threatened to hurt her if she didn't. The victim later made a call to police after the man left.
When Songjiang police was probing into this robbery, another woman made a similar report to them at 10pm on January 11 this year. The robbery occurred in the same place and the second victim was robbed out of 2,200 yuan the same way.
The suspected robber was soon identified as Shen, who was captured by police two days later. Shen told police that he lost his job last year and failed to get another work. After running out of all his deposits and the money he borrowed from others, he considered 'other ways' to get some money. Armed with a knife, he targeted that ATM machine as the place to commit a robbery and had been waited for more than half an hour before the first victim walked into the room.
