Man broke arm for cash

A GANG of three will face trial on charges of fraud as one of them broke his arm on purpose and then blackmailed compensation from drivers of tricycle transport vehicles, Baoshan District procuratorate said yesterday.

A man surnamed Lu who ran an illegal tricycle business in front of a hospital on Changjiang Road W. was carrying three people in February when one passenger fell to the ground suddenly. He was diagnosed with bone fracture at a hospital and Lu was asked for 20,000 yuan (US$3,147) as compensation.

Lu paid the cash.

Lu became suspicious a month later when he heard another tricycle operator surnamed Shen complain that he paid 10,000 yuan as compensation after one of his three passengers fell off the vehicle and suffered a bone fracture as well. Shen was about to visit the Baoshan police station and Lu asked to go. He recognized them and alerted police.
