Man charged over deadly revenge
A MAN who was hit by a brick in an apparent unprovoked attack has been charged with murder after he drove his car at his assailant, killing one man and injuring another, city prosecutors said yesterday.
The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate Prosecutors' Office has brought the murder charge against Wang Shufeng, a 34-year-old Jiangsu Province native.
Wang was an employee at the Shanghai outlet of a Jiangsu Province fire-resistant material firm and was provided with a company car.
Wang and two friends went to Baoshan District seeking entertainment after a heavy drinking session on the night of March 23, prosecutors said.
When Wang left his friends and walked alone on a green belt near Jiangyang Road N., he passed three young men. One of them hit him with the brick.
The attacker was coaxed away by his two companions as Wang, angry and with a bleeding head, found his friends in his car.
He ordered his friends out of the vehicle and drove off. In Tieyin Road, Wang saw the three men walking ahead and drove straight at them.
A man surnamed Feng was killed and a man surnamed Dou was injured, prosecutors said. They were the friends of the man, surnamed Zhang, who launched the brick attack and was ironically uninjured.
Wang sped away after the incident and later called a friend, Huo Congjin, who helped him leave Shanghai by driving him to a long-distance bus station, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors learned that the three young men Wang drove at were employees of a company in Baoshan District and that night they had also been drinking heavily.
When the three were walking along the green belt, Zhang felt Wang brush him as he passed so he hit him with the brick despite his friends advising against it.
Prosecutors said Wang should have realized the consequences of driving the car at the men.
Huo has been charged with helping Wang in his escape bid.
