Man detained after 2 stabbed to death

A MAN surnamed Zheng was taken into custody yesterday afternoon for allegedly stabbing two men - his girlfriend's brother-in-law and her cousin - to death in an attempt to win his lover back, Xuhui District police said yesterday.

Police said the murder occurred about 1:10pm yesterday in a residential house in Guangang Village in the district.

Zheng's girlfriend Chu, 46, broke up with Zheng, 52, recently, district police said.

The suspect, who didn't want to break up with Chu, had threatened to commit suicide if Chu did not come back.

About 12:50pm yesterday, Chu, her brother-in-law and cousin tried to move her things out of Zheng's home.

Zheng cut himself with a knife at the door, allegedly telling Chu to choose between staying with him or watching him die.

The quarrel escalated, both victims intervened and Zheng allegedly stabbed them both.

The two victims were confirmed dead after being rushed to hospital.

The case was under further investigation yesterday evening.
