Man detained for allegedly stabbing Shanghai Jahwa chairman

A man who was suspected of stabbing chairman of Shanghai Jahwa United was detained in a residential area on Songbing Road, Baoshan District, on Tuesday midnigh.

Xie Wenjian, chairman and general manager of the state-backed personal care and comestics company, got stabbed on leg in front of the company's office building last Friday.

The 25-year-old suspect, surnamed Xu, comes from Anhui province, xinmin.cn said.

The stab didn't result in serious injuries and Xie was still working, a Jahwa spokesperson was quoted by Caijing magazine as saying.

It is believed that the attack is related to Xie's various reforms following his appointment in November 2013.

The reforms include more transparent governance and clearing vendors and OEMs who could not meet Jahwa's requirements, xinmin.cn said.

Xie's predecessor, Ge Wenyao, who worked at Jahwa for nearly 30 years, was removed in June 2013 before the expiry of his term at the end of 2015.

Ge was removed as chairman of Shanghai Jahwa Group, the parent of Jahwa United, after he was accused of misusing the company's funds.

Xie, a Chinese American, is a professional manager and former CEO of Johnson & Johnson Medical (China). He had been working for Johnson & Johnson for 13 years. Xie owns the MBA of New York University, master of biochemistry from Boston University after graduating from Fudan University with a bachelor of chemistry, the report said.
