Man executed for killing 2 students in city
A 31-YEAR-OLD man who killed two elementary school students in 2018 was executed yesterday, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court said.
Huang Yichuan targeted the Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School in Xuhui District to vent his anger against perceived offenses by others.
Armed with a knife, he followed three fourth-grade pupils on the morning of June 28. The students and one of the parents were attacked about 130 meters from the school. Two of the children died and the others were injured.
He was caught by the school’s security guards and passers-by.
Huang, who is from Hunan Province, had reportedly scouted other cities in 2017, prior to the gruesome attacks in Shanghai.
Although there was evidence to show Huang suffered from schizophrenia, findings from the Academy of Forensic Science indicated that he was in control of his behavior at the time. Huang was sentenced to death for intentional homicide in May last year.
The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court said Huang’s execution came after his death sentence was approved by China’s Supreme People’s Court.
Huang met his next of kin before the execution, which was carried out in the presence of procuratorate officers.
