Man gets 1 year for bomb scare
A man who issued a false bomb threat in a shopping plaza after his landlord cut the power to his store was sentenced to one year in prison, the Qingpu District People's Court said yesterday.
The convict, surnamed Wang, was the general manager of a firm that rented a booth in a plaza on Gongyuan Road. The 33-year-old always delayed paying his rent, and his booth had been blacked out several times as his debts mounted to about 100,000 yuan (US$15,700).
Wang again failed to pay the rent before a September 1 deadline, and his power was cut off on the morning of September 2. Wang called police, claiming he had placed a bomb in the plaza that was set to explode in five minutes.
Police evacuated the plaza but found no bomb in a search that lasted four hours.
